Drivers in Almeria are being encouraged to pay their driving fines on line .In February the local authorities were allowed to inform drivers about their fines on line or by text messages .

For those who choose to pay in thThe relevant authority site is is way they have to be prepared to give their name , surname , NIE/Nif number , credit card details , the reference number and the amount of the fine.For many this may be off putting .

For those who do not want to go down this route they are still able  to pay at Banco Santander or the Post Office .It is obvious that the authorities would prefer the electronic method .They say that sending the fines this way is more reliable .The postal service could mean non-delivery if a change of address has not been given .This could mean penalties being added or an embargo on your bank account .

Two British men have been arrested by the Guardia Civil in Zurgena on the Costa Almeria for smuggling drugs through the post .

The police became aware that the postal service was being used for cocaine smuggling and began investigations to find the culprits .

Last week they targeted a package which had been sent from Argentina to a property in Zurgena .The house had no occupants .The house was then watched until someone came to collect the package , with false identity papers .They arrested two expats , a 30 year old and a 27 year old who live in Roquetas de Mar.

The package was a gift wine case and in the base of the package was enough cocaine to make at least 1500 units for sale at local leisure spots along the coast .

It appears that this could be a common way for drug traffickers to acquire their drugs .

Last week a woman from Albox in Almeria was killed by her husband it appears .The 49 year old man telephoned his brother in a very desperate state and said that he had done something terrible .The police visited the house and found the body of the woman in the house .The husband was also there and his clothing was bloodstained .

The couple were in the process of obtaining a divorce and the mother had a thirteen year old child living with her .The 20 year old is living in Murcia .The victim worked in the Social Services department of the Ayuntamiento and was very highly regarded by those with whom she worked .A crowd of at least 1000 people showed their respects outside the town hall after the murder .This is a community in shock.The couple had lived in the town for six years and were known to many people .

Between 2002 and 2008 there were 13 women killed by their partners in Almeria .Last year in the whole of Spain 72 women were murdered by their partners .The Minister for Equality in Andalucia has asked people to denounce domestic vilence , seeing this as one of the ways in which to comat it .

There has been an ongoing dispute betwwen the Junta de Andalucia and Vera council about sewage treatment appears to be over as the Junta has agreed to build a new sewage works at Mojacar.

The new plant will be built on the site of the old one and will process sewage from three Levante districts . It also seems that Vera council only discovered the news via a press release .This feels like a snub to them and the planning councillor has made it clear that they all need to work together on such issues .

The Junta , in the past has attempted to get the Vera council to build a plant to serve seven districts .However the plant which is being built in Vera is for that town alone .There had been rumour that Vera would increase the size of their plant and include Mojacar and Garrucha , but this cannot now be on the cards any more .

This battle began in 2007 when Vera announced that they would build their own plant at a cost of 9 million euros and that it would be functioning in 2009 ..The philosophy of vera is that all districts should deal with their own sewage .This is not echoed by the Junta .The Junta plan it was said could pump 44 million litres of untreated sewage a day into the sea , a charge that they have denied .
