Torrevieja Murder Verdict

Wednesday 31 March 2010 @ 7:46 pm

In April 2008 a British woman from Torrevieja was stabbed to death by a Cuban man.Last week a court at Elche found the man guilty of the murder of the woman and the prosecution is asking for a 17 year sentence.

The jury did consider as an extenuating circumstance the fact that the accused handed himself in to the police and told the Guardia Civil where he had disposed of the weapon. They would not accept his petition for a pardon or a partial pardon. He had changed his story in court to say that he was having a romantic relationship with the woman and that when he refused to leave his wife it was she who attacked him and that the whole thing was a terrible accident.

Police testimonies cast doubt on this version of events. They said that there was no sign of a fight and felt that if there had been a fight then the man was well able to defend himself. He accepted that the knife blade broke in the womans body and that he removed these and disposed of them.he also disposed of his own clothes. The judge is about to make a decision about the sentence.

San Fulgencio Abandoned Dogs

Wednesday 31 March 2010 @ 7:15 pm

A British family has been instrumental in rescuing a group of abandoned dogs between San Fulgencio and Dolores.A neighbour of the family had seen a number of dogs being thrown out of a van and the following day the children of the british family were scared because they had seen dogs in their lane .They were dogs that they didn´t know and this concerned them. That evening a Spanish man was overheard saying that he had shot a dog locally and was going to return to shoot the others, this alerted the family to do something about the situation.

They knew that local farmers and the older generation were very protective of their own animals and to do this they would resort to shooting strays. So the british family took the bull by the horns and took the dogs into their own garden to protect them. They were fed and watered and were very obviously not dangerous. The local police were called but were not interested and so the family contacted K9,a charity for animals,to help.Eventually the dogs were taken to a vet .A bullet was removed from behind the eye of one dog and the others had obviously been neglected and were treated for a variety of ailments. Many people will abandon their animals in the hope that someone else will come along and home them.
